Are you Lucy in Disguise?!

Lily Allen and her sister, Sarah Owen created a vintage-inspired standalone line, Lucy in Disguise, which officially launched in London last night (25th May). The collection includes for example maxi dress, a sparkly jumpsuit, and a retro mini sailor suit ( the 18-piece in total) and will be available at Shopbop in the U.S., Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, and Harvey Nichols in the U.K..

The line has a great website. I like the design and music on Lucy in Disguise’s website and the lips that fallows my every move. The intro movie is great and very interesting. I think that this is a great project and what else can I say: Well done to the team that has created Lucy in Disguise, especially to Lilly and Sarah!

New Boy Bag Chanel Collection 2011

Chanel launches a whole new line of Chanel bags this Fall. The bags are inspired by hunting cartridge style, originally carried by Coco Chanel herself. The new Boy bags are designed to represent the androgynous charm the designer was known and admired for.

The bags will be available in September in a palette of red, grey, and ivory . The price range: from $2500 to $4300.

Fashion Fringe 2011 - the finalists

 

Fashion Fringe has announced the finalists for 2011.

The finalists, who will now show their collections at London Fashion Week in September, are:

1. Fyodor Golan
2. Heidi Leung
3. Nabil El-Nayal

Fashion Fringe panel is made up of 5 industry professionals:  Anne Pitcher (Selfridges), Bel Jacobs (Metro), Claudia Schiffer, Roland Mouret and Roy Peach (London College of Fashion).

The final designers will be working through the summer on their Fashion Fringe capsule collections for London Fashion Week in September. They will receive studio and business mentoring from key sponsors. The overall winner will be announced after the catwalk show in September and will receive a 2-year development package.

Cannes Film Festival 2011, first week

The red carpet during Cannes Festival is a joy for eyes. Let's see some of the best looks from this year's festival on the red carpet.

Models' nightmare became a reality

Clearly there was something wrong with the shoes! During the Fashion for Relief 2011 catwalk fund-raiser in Cannes models tumbled on the catwalk. Three of the models had a problem staying on their feet and fell over a number of times before managing to escape backstage. The crowd treated each stumble with good humour and supported the models. I felt sorry for the models, but to be honest it is very funny to watch and I could not stop myself from embedding the movie from the show into this blog. Besides dodgy shoes both the dresses and models looked beautiful. The event was raising awareness and funds for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. 

Rise of Asian models

In the new Vogue I read a report about the growing popularity of Asian models in the world of fashion. The Asian beauty is slowly starting to be appreciated in the global fashion industry after many years of waiting. I found this report very interesting, because even though I have watched fashion shows and read fashion magazines regularly it has never struck me that there are very few Asian looking models. Lisa Movius described Li Ai’s story of how she has tried to break onto the international fashion stage for years and every time she has heard ‘We don’t want an Asian’. Thank god that this is changing and we can observe the shift of Asian models to the middle of the stage. My favourite Asian model at the moment is Liu Wen. She has dramatic cheekbones, which makes her stand out from the crowd. I am not the first person admiring her look.  In the autumn/winter 11’ season 18 houses choose her to represent their collection on their catwalk show. The wedding dress of the year

I can’t not to comment on Kate Middleton weeding dress. The rumors were true and on the wedding day the princess to be Kate, showed up at Westminster Abby in a dress designed by Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen’s label. It was modern and simple but a very elegant dress. The Duchess of Cambridge looked very natural. Sarah Burton can be called ‘the lucky one’. Designing the dress for royal weeding is the best PR exercise for her and Alexander McQueen’s house. Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was the most commented on dress since Princess Diana’s wedding. This wedding dress that was made of layers of soft, ivory and white silk was a huge success for both Kate and the designer.

Kate Middleton changed later in the evening and revealed her evening reception dress. The dress was designed by the same designer who designed the wedding dress and had a similar shape. It was a strapless white dress with an embroidered waistband. Throughout the day Kate proved that she knows how to look her best and I am glad that she stuck to her signature, natural looking hair. The second dress was more practical for dancing but still chic and elegant. I liked Kate’s evening look even more than the daytime one and the only thing I have left to say is ‘Well done!’
